Giorgi Chanturia is a junior associate at BGI legal. He joined the firm in April 2019.
Prior to joining BGI Legal, Giorgi interned at the General Legal Division of Office of Legal Affairs, the United Nations (New York, NY), where he drafted legal memos for the United Nations Dispute Tribunal (UNDT) and Appeals Tribunal (UNAT) and provided case summaries included in the United Nations Secretary-General’s report to the General Assembly.
In 2016 Giorgi undertook training at a boutique law firm, Joe Zhou and Associates (New York, NY).
Prior to his experience in the US, Giorgi worked as an analyst at Transparency International Georgia, where he conducted anti-corruption research and authored multiple reports and articles with his focus area being fraudulent cases in public procurement. During his time at TI Georgia, Giorgi has brought to light undeclared possessions of the Members of Parliament, uncovered public procurement process violations and designed a method of electronically obtaining, storing and processing publicly available online databases.
Giorgi’s experience includes working as a Tbilisi City Monitor at Georgian Public Defender’s Office and Council of Europe’s joint project for the Legal Assistance of the IDPs, advising and monitoring internally displaced persons.
Giorgi holds a Master’s Degree from Tbilisi State University (Tbilisi, Georgia), a Human Rights Master’s degree (LL.M) from Central European University (Budapest, Hungary) and a Master’s degree (LL.M) from University of Virginia School of Law UVA (Charlottesville, Virginia).
Giorgi passed the New York State Bar Exam in 2018 and was admitted to practice law in the State of New York. In the same year, he successfully passed the Georgian Bar Exam.
In addition to his native Georgian, Giorgi is also fluent in English and Russian.
