BGI Legal has contributed to the 2019 edition of the EIRA Report
We are pleased to announce that BGI Legal has contributed to the Energy Investment Risk Assessment Report (EIRA) 2019 by providing information on the regulatory environment of the energy sector in Georgia.
BGI was one of just three expert law firms from Georgia to be part of a team of distinguished energy experts who prepared the 2019 report published by the Energy Charter Secretariat.
This flagship publication assesses specific risks to energy investment that can be mitigated through adjustments to policy, legal and regulatory frameworks in 34 countries.
The Energy Charter Secretariat is an inter-governmental Brussels based organisation administering the Energy Charter Treaty, a multilateral trade and investment agreement comprising more than 50 countries and 40 observers. It is the only multilateral worldwide treaty devoted explicitly to energy and covering all energy forms. We are proud therefore of our contribution to such a significant project.
Lasha Gogiberidze (Partner), Ekaterina Aleksidze (Counsel) Tamar Morchiladze (Associate) and Giorgi Jolia (Associate) were the individual authors from BGI Legal contributing to the Georgia country section.

BGI Legal is ‘exceptional' in M&A, financing and real estate, and is especially prominent in the energy sector. Lasha Gogiberidze, whom clients regard as ‘the top lawyer in Georgia for banking, finance and capital markets transactions', and Sandro Bibilashvili handled a number of innovative regional energy projects and joint ventures, such as the Adjaristsqali hydropower project.
Legal director Unana Gogokhia focuses on financial transactions, and stands out for her experience of capital markets and derivatives. Clients appreciate her ability to "look at the issue very scrupulously and bring up points in the transaction that none of the other parties spotted." Sandro Bibilashvili is increasingly recognised in the market. He is involved in some of the firm's biggest project finance mandates and has recently been active working on energy projects. Counsel Tamara Tevdoradze enters the rankings on the back of positive praise. "She is very reliable, accurate and punctual, thinks in a very logical way and has very strong arguments," a client says
Zaza Bibilashvili is a well-known and highly regarded figure in the Georgian legal market. One of the founding partners of the firm, he oversees projects and is a key contact for clients. Lasha Gogiberidze has been called "one of the leading lawyers in Georgia" and "a central person not just in capital markets, but in the legal market in general." Considered an expert in capital markets and project finance work, particularly in the energy sphere, he is highly respected by his peers, who say: "He`s among the top lawyers who shaped the legal market."
