BGI Legal provided support to PILnet in the development of its regulatory guide for Civil Society Organizations in Georgia.
BGI Legal is pleased to have provided pro bono legal support to PILnet in the development of its guide on Regulatory Compliance and Legal Risk Assessment for Civil Society Organizations in Georgia. PILnet is a global public-interest law organization that connects civil society organizations with pro bono legal support and works to strengthen civic space and access to justice. Our team contributed to the assessment of the applicable legal and regulatory framework, including key compliance requirements, potential legal risks, and practical considerations for organizations operating in Georgia, particularly in relation to foreign funding and ‘transparency’ requirements.
Pro bono work has been part of BGI Legal’s broader public commitment for years. The firm’s formal engagement in this area dates back to 2014, when the issue of pro bono legal services in Georgia was first advanced within the framework of Association of Georgian Law Firms (ALFG), with BGI Senior Partner Zaza Bibilashvili heading the Pro Bono Initiative.
“Supporting civil society through pro bono legal services has long been an important part of BGI Legal’s work. We are proud to contribute our expertise to initiatives that help organizations better understand and navigate Georgia’s increasingly challenging regulatory environment. This is not our first pro bono engagement in support of civil society, and we remain committed to continuing this work where our expertise can make a meaningful difference,” says BGI Partner Tamara Tevdoradze.
