BGI wins another landmark case, on behalf of confectionery giant Ferrero
BGI has recently achieved another landmark success, enabling international confectionery giant Ferrero to register a geographical indication as a trademark. Georgian Trademark Office has upheld BGI's arguments that the geographical indication can be registered as a trademark, if it is not known to an average consumer.
"We are glad that the local Trademark Office has brought its practice into compliance with EUIPO guidelines," said Lika Topuria, BGI attorney representing Ferrero.
"This is a landmark case in Georgian IP law, which has already been cited as a precedent by the Georgian Trademark Office at various meetings and workshops," said George Sarajishvili, trademark attorney and Head of BGI's litigation practice.
